To the Editor:
The month of February marks the annual observance of School Board Appreciation Month — a time to salute the work of school board members and celebrate public education.
The theme of this year’s celebration, “School Boards Speak Out For Public Schools,” reflects the combined commitment to lead and advocate for quality and accountable public schools that ensure all students achieve.
In Franklin City Public Schools, school board members must develop policies and make tough decisions on complex educational and social issues impacting the entire community. They carry out the truest form of representative government in our democracy-volunteer public service and preserve the core of our democratic land — public education.
Too often we neglect to recognize the dedication and hard work of these men and women who represent us. Their decisions and actions affect the present and future lives of our community’s children.
Please join us in celebrating School Board Appreciation Month in Franklin City Public Schools as we recognize and celebrate the work of our school board members.
Please make an effort to let them know that you appreciate what they do for the students of Franklin City Public Schools.
The Franklin City School Board Members are Edna King, board chairman and at-large member; Johnetta Nichols, vice chairman from Ward 3; Will Councill from Ward 1; Cindy Fillhart from Ward 6; Glenn Hopkins from Ward 2; Verta Jackson from Ward 5; and Sherita Ricks-Parker from Ward 4.
