Carolyn Asimos

SUFFOLK — Carolyn Asimos, 97, passed into eternal rest and peace March 6, 2013 at Autumn Care of Suffolk.
A native of High Point, NC, she was the daughter of the late Bessie and Daniel Harris. She was predeceased by her husband James P. Asimos; son, Gary D. Nance; and her grandson, Gary M. Nance; five sisters and a brother. Mrs. Asimos came to Suffolk in 1941 with her husband, and they operated the Ritz Restaurant on Main St. During her later years, she worked as a nurse’s aide at Obici Hospital before becoming a Nanny. The children and families continued to appreciate the love and care she gave to them. Mrs. Asimos was a long time member of First Baptist Church of Suffolk where she helped with youth activities when her children were young. She also volunteered with the Brownie Scouts of America as a leader.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Mary Carolyn Coggsdale (Ed) of Franklin; sons, William Asimos (Lois) of Virginia Beach, Jimmy Asimos (Ginny) of Kill Devil Hills, NC; daughter-in-law Jean Nance of Virginia Beach; seven grandchildren, Karen Shaffer (Terry), Barry Asimos (Heather), Ginger Prince (Ellis), Timothy Asimos (Heather), Mark Coggsdale (Shannon), Wendy Coggsdale and Susan Coggsdale; and 13 great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted on Sunday, March 10, 2013 at 2:30 PM by the Reverends Charles W. Thompson and Alan Campbell in the R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory, 509 W. Washington Street, Suffolk, with burial following at Holly Lawn Cemetery. Friends may join the family for visitation from 1 PM to 2:30 PM on Sunday, March 10, 2013, at R.W. Baker & Co.
