ISLE OF WIGHT—The Isle of Wight Academy softball team churned out a 14-0 win Friday over Tidewater Academy.
“For our first game of the season we played well,” said IWA Coach Chris Hooper. “Especially after we settled and got our timing down — we started seeing the hits in the third.”
Lady Charger Hailey Glover gave up only one hit while striking out three in a five-inning game. The senior also went one-for-three from the plate and two RBIs in the win.
“Hailey threw extremely well,” Hooper said. “We had an overall good game.
Senior Taylor Chaffer went one-for-three at the plate with a three-run home run.
Senior Lindsey Coble also hit a three-run home run as she went one-for-four at the plate. Freshman Trish Webb went three-for-three with one RBI.
“They were the better team that day,” said TA Coach Brent Lowe. “They are a good hitting team.”
TA only struck out three times.
“The girls got the bat on the ball,” Lowe said. “Unfortunately, it was straight to people.”
The Lady Chargers will next play Warwick High School at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, March 14, in Newport News, while the Lady Warriors will travel to Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot for a 4:30 p.m. game on Thursday.
