FRANKLIN—Frank Hudson Whitley Sr. “Paw Paw”, 79, passed away surrounded by his loving family on March 19, 2013. A native of Boykins, he was a son of the late Ryland Hudson and Mamie Tillery Byrd Whitley. He retired after 20 years as a Bridge Supervisor from the Virginia Department of Transportation and was a member of the Virginia Wildlife Conservation. He was predeceased by two brothers, Wilson and Hugh “Junior” Whitley; four half-brothers, Leo, Tommy, Southgate, and Wendell Byrd; one half-sister, Mary Elizabeth Williams.
Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Eunice Munford Whitley; two daughters, Janet Floyd and husband, Jeffrey, of Courtland and Beth W. Turner and husband, K. T., of Franklin; a son, Frank Hudson Whitley Jr. and wife, Patty, of Suffolk; a beloved sister, Mildred W. Gwaltney King “Sis” of Windsor; six grandchildren, Candace Saunders and husband, Woody, Jonathan Whitley and wife, Shea, Christopher Whitley and wife, Julia, Kevin Whitley and Katelyn Duck; one step-grandchild, Jeffery B. W. Floyd; and five great-grandchildren, Alexis Parker, Zavion Parker, Summer Saunders, Brandon Saunders, and Emerson Whitley; many nieces, nephews, and cousins as well as his best friend and companion, Shadow.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, at Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. Curtis Faison officiating. Interment will follow at Nansemond Suffolk Cemetery, Suffolk.
