Maxine C. King

FRANKLIN—Maxine Covington King, 91, widow of Keister Troy King passed away May 18, 2013 at the home of her daughter after a 10 year battle with Alzheimer’s disease.  She was born in Clover, VA, a daughter of the late Charles Bernard and Myrtle Leigh Sneed Covington and was predeceased by a daughter, Lou Ann King; a sister, Marguerite C. Moss; and a brother, Charles Bernard Covington, Jr.    The King family lived in Virginia Beach for over 40 years and were former owners of the Avalon Hotel.  She was a former member of the Broad Bay Garden Club, the Virginia Beach Power Squadron and was an avid bridge player.

Left to cherish her memory are one daughter, Pamela King Wiggins, and husband, Joe Nye, of Franklin; one son, Maxwell Troy King, of Virginia Beach; one sister, Audrey Wells, of Canton, GA; three grandchildren, Joe Nye Wiggins, Jr., and wife, Kara, of Kuna, ID, Joanna W. Garofalo, and husband, Eric, of Moseley, VA, and John Parker Wiggins, and wife, Kyle, of Eclipse, VA; and 10 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at the Wiggins Family Cemetery on Smiths Ferry Rd, Franklin, on Friday, May 24th at 2 p.m., with burial at a later date at Oak Ridge Cemetery in South Boston, VA.  Memorials may be made to any local Alzheimer’s Association.  Wright Funeral Home is assisting the family.  www.wrightfuneralhome.org
