Jack W. “Jackie” Holland, Jr., 75, passed away on Friday, May 24, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family. A native of Franklin, he was born on May 13, 1938 in Room 13 at Raiford Memorial Hospital to the late Jack W. and Ida Ruth Cofield Holland, and was predeceased by a sister, Dell Joyner. He was a retired millwright with Union Camp Corporation and worked from 1965 to 2003. Jackie was a longtime member of the Bronco Rod and Gun Club where he served as Vice President. He loved his hunting dogs, Kalo and Shy, loved to hear the dogs run, and was known for his delicious barbeque and being “Mr. Fixit”. Jackie was a member of the Forks of the River Hunt Club, Ducks Unlimited and was an honorary member of the Carrsville Community Hunt Club. He was a Baptist. Jackie was a great friend who loved the simple things in life and tried to make sure his family was always first.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 30 years, Joyce Holland; three daughters, Judi Gilmore and husband Pete of Fallbrook, CA, Carol Schwartz and husband Buck and Wendy Myers and husband Mitch, all of Suffolk; a son, Jack W. “Will” Holland, III and his wife Debbie of Bedford, TX; one brother, Tommy Holland of Franklin; six grandchildren, Lexi Libbrecht, Zach Gilmore, Josh Bulls, Mark Myers, Marisa Cunningham and Samantha Myers; one great-grandchild, Wyatt Libbrecht.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin with the Rev. John Watson and the Rev. Robert Cofield officiating. The burial will follow at Woodland United Methodist Church in Orbit. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wright Funeral Home and request in lieu of flowers memorials be made to Central VA Burn Camp, (vaburncamp.org) or The American Cancer Society. www.wrightfuneralhome.org
