To the Editor:
This week I had the wonderful privilege of participating in history. Southampton Memorial Hospital celebrated its 50th year of serving the health care needs of Franklin, Southampton County, Isle of Wight County and the surrounding areas. The ceremony included interesting speakers, a menu of delectable food, and excellent weather. However, I am most appreciative for the people in attendance that graciously took time out of their busy schedules to show support of the hospital.
As I mentioned in my brief comments during the program, I believe this hospital has been a pillar of this community. It has cared for hundreds of thousands of patients, employed thousands of people and has been one of the leading economic drivers of the community for a very long time.
It is my hope, desire, mission, and vision that Southampton Memorial Hospital will continue to be a health care resource for this community. As a result, we are continuing to grow our services and add new physicians in order to better serve you.
In an era where health care options are plentiful, it is nice to know there are so many people that believe in the “hometown” hospital.
I cannot express enough thanks to everyone that planned and participated in the celebration. I am proud to be apart of this community and proud to lead such a great group of dedicated staff, physicians, and volunteers. THANK YOU!
