In a road game at Onley, the Franklin Broncos defeated the Nandua Warriors 48-28.

While Coach Darren Parker was happy with the win, he pointed out that with 3 minutes left in the fourth quarter, the score was 41-7.

“I’m happy with our performance in the first quarter, second quarter, third quarter and the start of the fourth quarter,” he said. “I think we just have to finish games.

“We played well as a team, but we are going to go back and fine tune some things.”

Parker said it is a lot of small things, but they are fixable.

“This season, we are dedicated to critiquing the small things,” he said. “Our goal is to get over the hump. To get over the hump, and when a championship, we’ve got to fix the small things. Small things can kill you in the big games.

“I enjoyed the win, but we’ll come back Monday ready to roll.”

In the victory, Franklin put up 377 total yards, with 346 of that on the ground. Nandua had 280 total yards — 172 on the ground.

“Offensively, we executed well,” Parker said. “Anytime you get 48 in a game, that is good. Our kids, as a whole, gave it 110 percent. I’m happy with that.”

Defense and special teams were also good.

“We played very well on defense,” Parker said. “It was our first time seeing that offense this year. We executed the game plan well.

“Special teams did great — we had a kick return ran back for a touchdown.”

Laquadric Pittman was 1 of 1 passing, and it was a 31 yard strike to Corey Porter for a touchdown.

Marcus Stephens ran for 143 yards, and one was 59 yards for his touchdown. Latrell Lane, on 12 carries, had 116 yards for 1 touchdown. Javonte Baker also had a rushing touchdown.

On the defensive side of the ball, Quayshawn Jefferson, a nose guard and linebacker, had 7 tackles. Latrell Lane, a nose guard, had 4 tackles. LB Terry Warren had 4 tackles.

Corey Porter returned a kick-off 77 yards for a touchdown on special teams.

The Broncos play the Colonial Beach Drifters (1-0) this upcoming week at Armory Field.
