Broncos stay unbeaten in 39-8 win against the Surry Cougars

DENDRON—The Franklin Broncos continued their successful season with a win over the Surry Cougars at Surry High School on Friday Oct. 4. The Broncos defense held the Air Cougars scoreless until the fourth quarter.
Franklin (5-0) opened up the scoring early in the first quarter on their first possession on a touchdown run by Latrell Lane. The kick by Angel Padilla was good to put the Broncos up 7-0 with 5:15 on the clock.
On the next Cougar possession, the tough Bronco defense dug in pushing the Cougars back deep in their own territory and Domique Gainey sacked the Cougar quarterback Derrick Bailey in the end zone for a safety. The score advanced for the Broncos to 9-0 with 4:50 remaining in the first quarter.
After the Cougar kick, the Broncos cranked up the offense and moved the ball easily down the field and Corey Porter crossed the goal line on a run. Padilla nailed the kick to advance the score to 16-0.
The second quarter went scoreless for both teams, as the Cougar defense dug in to stop a Bronco drive that went deep in their territory to the 2 yard line. The score remained the same as the half ended with the Broncos up 16-0.
The Broncos took the opening kick-off in the second half but fumbled on their first possession. The Cougars tried to capitalize on the turnover and drove the ball into the red zone on the Bronco 2 yard line. The defense stopped the first play and on the next play, Porter for the Broncos picked off a pass in the end zone and returned it to the Bronco 30 yard line. The offense quickly reaching the red zone and scored on a 2 yard run by Javonte Baker. The Padilla kick was good and the Broncos led 23-0.
In the 4th quarter a 30 yard pass from LaQuadric Pittman to Darrien Duck put 6 more points on the scoreboard for the Broncos. Padilla added the extra point for the score to advance to 30-0.
The Cougars scored on a pass play by quarterback Timothy Marsh to Jarad Barry. Marsh ran the two point conversion to give the home team 8 points to the Broncos 30.
The Broncos added more points following a 45 yard field goal by Padilla and a 35 yard touchdown run by Quayshawn Jefferson, and the kick was no good. The final score was 39-8
Bronco head coach Darren Parker remarked after the game, saying, “We executed in all 3 phrases of the game and we played as a team. Teams win championships and we are one team. The only accolades that we go for are for the team.”
