Betty Allgood

Deaconess Betty Elizabeth Allgood, formerly of Number 8 Schoolhouse Road, Boykins, Virginia departed this life on October 16, 2013, while a patient in Croasdaile Village Pavilion Health Care Center in Durham, North Carolina. She was born January 7, 1921 to Caleb and Eva Fisher Everett in Southampton County, Virginia. She was a devoted member of the Shiloh Baptist Church for nearly 70 years and served as a deaconess for more than 60 years.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Deacon Dr. Willie Allgood; five brothers, Oswald, Joseph, Hezekiah, Alexander, and Herman; and two sisters, Dora and Sallie Mae.
Deaconess Allgood retired from the Southampton County School System with over forty years of distinguish service as a school cafeteria cook in the early eighties. After her retirement, she could be found working side-by-side with her late husband in Allgood’s Shoe Repair in Boykins. She enjoyed working inside and outside of the Church supporting various civic, educational and religious activities.
During her membership at Shiloh, she was a member of the Senior Choir, Pastor’s Aide Club, Beautification Club, Missionary Club, Willing Workers Club, served on numerous committees, and participated in countless fund raising events for the Church and local community. She was also an active member in the local chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star for over 30 years until her decline in health.
She is survived by a daughter, Mollie Pricilla Whitfield of Durham, NC.; a sister, Catherine Everett of New York, NY; three grandsons, Kenneth Allgood Whitfield (Sylvia), Kelvin Whitfield (Victoria), both of Durham and Brian Keith Whitfield of Roanoke VA.; nine great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law; Ruth Allgood of Shacklefords VA., and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A homegoing celebration will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at 1:00 PM, Shiloh Baptist Church, 30188 Shiloh Road, Boykins, Virginia, with the pastor, Reverend Dr. Lillie A. Faison delivering the message of comfort. Committal and Benediction will be in the church cemetery. A traditional service with dignity will be conducted by Wm. M.
