TAPPAHANNOCK—God received an Angel, Bobbie Gibson on April 4, 2014. She never quit, she never gave up hope and most importantly, she never stopped caring for those she loved.
The service in celebration of Bobbie’s life will take place at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 9, in the Mechanicsville Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd., Mechanicsville, Va., with a visitation to follow.
Bobbie grew up in Wise County, in Southwestern Virginia, where she was born on May 18, 1939, to George and Edith Bloomer.
She later moved to Franklin, where she began a career as a nurse, and retired after 20 years from Little Sisters of the Poor, St. Joseph’s Home in Richmond, and then moved to Tappahannock.
Bobbie lives on in the memories of scores of family members and friends including her daughter, Rita Gibson Tassone; grandsons, Nick and Austin Tassone; her two sisters, Linda Pickett and Anne Harris; and Bobbie’s “best buddy,” Danny Layman.
She will also be remembered by her numerous nephews and nieces, especially the nephew she treated like her own son, Kevin Pickett, who always called her “my Bobbie,” and her long-time friend, Marcia Fisher.
The family requests that given Bobbie’s love for the mountains and the people of Southwestern Virginia, that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Health Wagon, 5626 Patriot Dr., Wise, VA 24293.
The family also requests any personal notes describing ones favorite memories of Bobbie be posted at www.bennettfuneralhomes.com.
