Broncos go down to Bulldogs

The Franklin High School Broncos traveled to Lawrenceville on Friday night to take on the Brunswick High School Bulldogs in a TriRivers District out of division VHSL football game. In the end, the Bulldogs handed the Broncos a 32-8 defeat.

The Bulldogs opened the scoring in the first quarter with a 14-yard touchdown run by Darren Owens. The two-point conversion failed, and the first quarter ended with home team up 6-0.

But after the slow first quarter, the Bulldogs cranked up their offense and rolled off four touchdowns in the second quarter to put them up 32-0 at the half. Two of the Bulldogs touchdowns came on long runs of 48 and 31 yards. Another Bulldog touchdown was the result of an interception where a Bronco pass by Darrien Duck was picked off on the Bronco 49-yard line and returned for a touchdown.The Bulldogs final touchdown of the game was a pass from Darren Owens to Marshall King for a 31-yard score. The two-point conversion failed.

The Broncos only touchdown of the game was in the third quarter on a 10-yard run by Jack Sykes. Sykes also added the two-point conversion.

The Broncos were led in rushing by Javonte Baker with 69 yards, Tyree Jones with 49 yards and Jack Sykes with 39 yards.

The Broncos, now 1-5, will return home on Oct. 17 to take on the Sussex Tigers.
