Windsor and Bruton battled strong in the first set until the Lady Dukes closed the score to 8-7, but after that, Bruton started pulling away. The Lady Panthers scored 11 straight points to win 25-9.

Sets 2 and 3 were much more competitive for Windsor. Bruton jumped ahead 12-5, but the Lady Dukes were not finished. Windsor came back and closed it to 24-21 before a close hit on the border was called in, giving the set point to Bruton.

In set 3, it was Windsor’s turn to jump into the lead. After a close battle to 5-6 Windsor, the Dukes jumped ahead to 17-10 before the Lady Panthers came storming back on the kill shots of Calloway. Bruton tied it at 18-all. Bruton scored the next two points, but then Kellie Matthews got a kill to help close it, and Windsor closed it up again at 20-all.

The two teams traded points until Matthews tied it with a kill at 23-all. Bruton got the next two points, however, and picked up the 25-23 win and advanced in the playoffs.

“I am very proud of the way they played,” Windsor Head Coach Stacey Griffith said. “The first game, I think they were nervous. But those other two games, we gave them a run for their money.

“We did not allow them to get points easily.”

For the Lady Dukes, this is the end of the season. Griffith said she was proud of her team for all they have done.

“I think they played their hearts out all year,” she said. “I’m proud of them. It’s been a good season.”

Matthews was 5 for 6 serving and had 12 kills. Payton Gay had 10 assists and 1 dig. Reagan Hasty was 11 for 13 serving and had 3 aces. Kelsey Searcy had 1 kill and 1 assist.
