CARRSVILLE
The Isle of Wight County Sheriff’s Office is investigating possible human skeletal remains that were located in a wooded area near Carrsville, said Lt. Tommy Potter of the Isle of Wight Sheriff’s Office on Friday afternoon.

Potter said it is his belief that the skeleton is of human origin and the office is conducting a death investigation. It is too early to tell if foul play was involved, he added.

Deputies were alerted to the skeleton by a group of hunters, who were preparing to take down a tree stand and came across it, Potter said.

Investigators are on scene and consulting with the Medical Examiner.

Potter said due to the difficulty of securing the crime scene over night, they have chosen not to release a precise location.
