The Cover 3 Foundation, along with several sponsors, will be hosting a Thanksgiving turkey giveaway on Nov. 22 in connection with their youth football league. Families with a child that plays football or cheers in the league can stop by the foundation, located at 125 South College Drive in Franklin, and register between the hours of 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. through Friday. Those who register will receive a ticket and pickup will occur on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the foundation.
Greg Scott, founder of Cover 3, stressed that the giveaway is a way for the foundation to support the families that give so much for their children to play in the league.
“We partnered with several sponsors, including Cisco, Walmart, the Lend a Hand Foundation, Franklin Star Lodge and Operation Blessing, and we have over 400 turkeys to give away,” said Scott.
Scott noted that there are 382 families in the league, and he hopes that every one of them can have a turkey on Thanksgiving. Those turkeys that remain unclaimed at 2 p.m. on Saturday will then be distributed to any member of the community that comes by the foundation.
“Our sponsors are giving us an opportunity to bless as many people as possible for the holiday,” Scott said.
The Jameer Woodley Reading Foundation will also be on hand this Saturday, distributing books to children in grades kindergarten through 8th. Tim Woodley, who started the foundation after his son was hit and killed by a school bus at Riverside Elementary School, noted that the books have been donated to or purchased by the foundation specifically for the event.
“Whatever the kids need,” said Woodley.
There is a limit of two books per child.
