FRANKLIN
After trailing at the half 31-29, the Franklin High School Broncos picked up the pace in the second half outscored the Charles City Panthers by 32 points in a TriRivers district basketball contest. In picking up the 75-45 home victory, the Broncos’ first game of the season put one in the W column.
Head Coach Robby Cutchins said the energy in the second half for the Broncos was amazing to behold.
“We made a few defensive adjustments in the second half, and got a little pressure on the basketball, which caused some turnovers,” Cutchins said. “We were then able to finish in transition.”
Darrien Duck, a senior forward, scored 18 points, and fellow forward Denard Williams had 14 points and 12 rebounds. Williams also had two blocks.
On Monday night, the Broncos will be on their home court against nearby rival Southampton High School.
“It’s always a big game, the Franklin-Southampton contest,” said Cutchins. “Whether it’s football or basketball, it’s a big rivalry game. You’ve got friends and family members who are going to be on opposite sides of the court. It’s going to be a battle.”
