The Sebrell Civic Club will be hosting its 62nd annual auction on Friday at the Sebrell Community Center, located at 17324 River Road in Courtland. Dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m. and includes your choice of barbecue chicken, barbecue pork or Brunswick stew, sides of coleslaw, baked beans or hush puppies and a beverage. The price varies on the main item and number of sides per plate. Takeout dinners will also be available.
The auction, meanwhile, will begin at 7 p.m., with auctioneer Joe Gray serving as the master of ceremonies. More than 100 items will be up for auction, according to Bruce Phillips, civic club member and supervisor for the Capron District. Among those items are corn, cotton and soybean seeds, fertilizer, farming chemicals, toys, tools, haircuts and massages.
The proceeds from the event will benefit the club’s philanthropic projects, including maintaining the Sebrell Community Center, assisting those in need and offering a college scholarship to a local student.
“I’d like to thank the people that enjoy this evening every year for their support, as well as the businesses for their support and contributions,” Phillips said, noting the 40 or so vendors that donated items for the auction.
