FRANKLIN
RadioShack announced last Thursday that it’s going bankrupt and filing for Chapter 11 reorganization.

Virginia is one of the states in which the company is closing its stores, and the Franklin site is no exception. Staff there could not comment, and referred to the corporate office for any further details.

“We do not have a timeline for closing to share at this point,” came the emailed reply to questions from The Tidewater News. “You can find the most updated information at the link below — www.radioshackcorporation.com/restructuring — that includes the initial list of potential store closures. We will update the site as we have more information.”

A staff member at the Suffolk store said there’s been no word yet if that location will also close.

General Wireless Inc., which is an affiliate of Standard General L.P., will buy 1,500 to 2,400 of RadioShack’s American stores as part of the reorganization.

General Wireless is also working with Sprint to create what it calls “store within a store” presence within 1,750 shops.
