On the morning of April 29, five people were transported to a hospital when a Dodge Journey sports utility vehicle and Toyota Sienna minivan collided head-on on Story’s Station Road.
Further investigation led the Southampton County Sheriff’s Office to obtain a search warrant for the blood of one of the drivers involved, Sarah Wise Pittman of Sedley. Based on the blood test, an arrest warrant was issued for the 34-year-old. She was charged with driving under the influence (first offense). Pittman turned herself in at the Southampton County Jail on Tuesday, May 26, and was subsequently released on a $2,500 unsecured bond.
Those involved in the accident were transported by helicopter to Sentera Norfolk General Hospital, and the sheriff’s office said that none had any complications as a result of the incident. Pittman, who was the lone occupant of her vehicle, received the most serious injuries, according to spokesperson Maj. Gene H. Drewery. He was not aware of the extent of the injuries.
Pittman has since retained an attorney, and her arraignment is scheduled for Tuesday, June 2, in Southampton County General District Court.
