WINDSOR
Though Windsor High School head baseball coach Robert Hedrick admitted the season didn’t end up as he planned, he’s still proud of how the Dukes performed on the field.
The TriRivers District coaching staff was also pleased, awarding Windsor six first-team honors, and 10 overall awards.
First-team all-district members are Lance Sexton, catcher; Griffin Holtz, shortstop; Alec Kiser, pitcher; Hunter Williams, outfield; Phillip Carr, outfield; and Gregory Ashburn, first base.
Drew Parsain, second base; and Hunter Williams, pitcher, were each named to the TriRivers District Second Team.
Honorable mentions went to Trevor Kiser, third base; and Chris Funai, outfield.
The Dukes finished the season 17-9 and with a share of the TriRivers District Championship. Windsor fell short of reaching the VHSL 2A East Regional, as the King William Cavaliers were able to come back in the seventh inning in the conference semifinal. Only the teams in the final move on to the regionals.
Windsor will graduate five seniors: Funai, Holtz, Parsain, Sexton and Kiser. Sexton will bring his talents behind the plate to the NCAA Division III Randolph-Macon College Yellow Jackets.
“It was another sound year for our program, we just have to find a way to win the big game,” Hedrick said. “The five seniors we lose were great role models for our young players and have shown that hard work pays off.
“We have a good core of guys coming back next year and some young faces that will play big roles next year. The program is in a good spot for many years to come.”
