After a week’s deliberation, the Southampton County Public School Board Selection Commission on Tuesday morning reappointed Lynn Bradley and Florence Reynolds to their respective places on the school board.

Bradley, of the Franklin-Hunterdale District, will serve a second term on the board after defeating challenger Mary Ann Turner; Reynolds, Berlin-Ivor District, was selected for a ninth over candidate Christopher Cornwell.

“I’m thankful to the committee for their confidence and thankful to my constituents for their confidence in putting me back on the board. I will continue to work hard for the children so that the schools remain as successful as they have been in the past,” Reynolds said. “I believe that if you have good schools, then people and businesses will want to come to the community. I’ll just continue to work hard for the children. They work hard and deserve an excellent education.”

Southampton is among 24 of Virginia’s 134 school districts where voters do not choose school board members. Instead, School Board Selection Commission members Mark Hodges, chairman, Wayne Cosby and Larry Rose make the choices. Each member is a resident of the county.

Next year, the terms will end for Capron and Dreweryville district seats represented by Vice Chairman Jim Pope, who replaced 41-year member Russell Schools in 2012, and Donna Roundtree.
