Southampton County Sheriff’s Deputies have arrested and charged Keynata D. Powell, 28, of Courtland, with grand larceny after she allegedly stole a vehicle from a construction site on Ivor Road. The incident is believed to have occurred in the morning hours of July 4.

Major Gene H. Drewery, spokesman for the sheriff’s department, said a tip about the incident provided deputies with the alleged thief’s location.

Powell was given a $1,000 secured bond, and is scheduled to be arraigned in Southampton General District Court on July 7. She is being held at Southside Regional Jail in Emporia until that time.

The van has since been returned to its owner.
