Three deputies from the Southampton County Sheriff’s Office were allegedly assaulted by an inmate at the Southampton County Jail on June 26. Robert Judd, 30, of Virginia Beach, was being questioned by jail staff about a verbal confrontation he reportedly had with another inmate when he failed to comply with directions.
According to Major Gene H. Drewery, spokesman for the sheriff’s department, Judd had to be physically picked up and moved because he refused to move on his own. After being placed in isolation, Judd is alleged to have thrown a liquid on the deputies, thus the assault charges. None of the deputies suffered any injuries as a result.
Judd was incarcerated for a violation of probation stemming from the assault of a correctional officer in 2006.
