VIRGINIA BEACH — James Manuel Flythe of Forest Glen Road departed this earthly life on October 5, 2015, while resting peacefully in his home.
Manley, as he was affectionately known, was born the son of Alvin and Mattie Sue Hunt Flythe in Newsoms on Dec. 25, 1941.
He was baptized at Mount Tabor Baptist Church under the pastorate of the Rev. Roger Steele. Manley was a loving person with the God-given gift of song. He had a beautiful voice and often imitated his favorite vocalists.
Manley was always loved and cared for by his family. His mother dedicated her life to her husband and family, but had a special motherly instinct to care for her extraordinary son. Upon the death of Manley’s mother, his sisters continued the exceptional care with the same love and devotion.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Clarence Flythe, James T. Flythe and Lloyd Flythe.
His memory will be cherished forever by his sisters, Ethel Sykes of Elizabeth City, North Carolina, Alvenia LeBoeuf (Edward) of Virginia Beach and Sherdine F. Handshaw of Franklin; nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service of transition will be on Saturday, Oct. 10, at 1p.m. in the chapel of Wm. M. Johnson & Sons Inc., 224 S. Main St., Franklin. The committal and benediction will be in Mount Tabor Baptist Church Cemetery.
