Your vote counts more than you realize

You may find it hard to work up much of an interest in voting this year. You won’t be alone, either, as voter registrars around the commonwealth are predicting a low voter turnout this election, with fewer than 40 percent of registered voters expected to show up to cast their votes.
No gubernatorial race; no challengers for the constitutional officers and only three seats up for grabs on the Southampton County Board of Supervisors will diminish that vote even further.
To some, election season may not matter. But, we’re here to tell you that elections have consequences, whether at the local level for sheriff or at the state level for governor, lieutenant governor and attorney general. And citizens have a sacred duty — albeit one that’s easily shirked — to show up and participate.
We hope you will do so this Nov. 3, no matter how little you think your vote counts.
