FRANKLIN
Students, faculty and staff at J.P. King Jr. Middle School were evacuated to Franklin’s Armory Field at approximately 11:45 this morning due to a bomb threat. According to Cpt. Tim Whitt, spokesman for the Franklin Police Department, three explosive detection canines searched the school and no explosive device was found.

Parents were allowed to pick up their children at Armory Field, while those remaining were transported to Franklin High School, where they were fed lunch and stayed for the remainder of the day.

Franklin City Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Willie J. Bell said the threat was made by an anonymous caller.

“All students and staff were evacuated and moved to one of our crisis locations for safety,” Bell said. “Law enforcement contacted and provided a thorough search of the building and grounds. No threats were found.”

Whitt said that all officers have cleared the scene, while Bell added that an investigation of the anonymous call is still pending.
