George Ryland Carr

IVOR — George Ryland Carr, 90, a lifelong farmer, passed away on Monday, Nov. 23, 2015.
George, along with brother Merrell, established Carr Brother Farms in Ivor, Virginia. Among his many other accomplishments he served his community as a barber, was a member of Millfield Baptist Church and was a founding member of Ivor Volunteer Fire Department where he served for 58 years. He loved country music and never missed an opportunity to share a story with friends and strangers alike.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifton and Mattie Joyner Carr; a sister, Janet Stieh; and his brothers, Merrell and Herbert Carr.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 57 years, Carolyn Owney Carr; son, Randy Carr and wife, Frankie; daughter, Heidi Pittman and husband, Michael; grandchildren, Clifford “Pete” Carr and wife, Casey, Tiffany Carr, Stephanie Boyd and husband, Nigel, Christopher Pittman, Brooklyne Carr; great-grandchildren, Christopher Boyd, Alyssa Boyd, Ryland Carr, Effie Carr and Olivia Carr.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 25, at Millfield Baptist Church in Ivor. Burial will follow in Ivor Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the Ivor Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 213, Ivor, VA 23866 or to Millfield Baptist Church, 31389 Millfield Road, Wakefield, VA 23888.
