WINDSOR
A canine drug scan performed by the Isle of Wight County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday required a brief lockdown at Windsor High School to “ensure the safety of all students.”

This information comes from Lynn Briggs, spokeswoman for Isle of Wight County Public Schools.

Asked if anything was found, she said the search yielded one vehicle that had “suspicious material,” which is being investigated.

“This incident is being handled as a student disciplinary matter in accordance with IWCS policy and procedure,” she added.

The exercise was planned, but unannounced, and was done with the help of school administrators.

The parking lot as well as the building were searched.

Briggs added that both students and staff cooperated with the authorities and the search was complete after an hour.

“Events such as this help to ensure parents, students and the community that maintaining safe schools and an effective, well-disciplined learning environment is a priority for Isle of Wight County Schools,” she said.
