Randy Forbes to leave 4th, run for 2nd Congressional District seat
Published 1:44 pm Monday, February 8, 2016
On Monday at his new campaign headquarters in Virginia Beach, U.S. Congressman J. Randy Forbes (VA-4) announced he would leave his current congressional district and run for the seat in the second congressional district. U.S. Congressman Scott Riggell (VA-2) recently announced his intention not to seek reelection, and endorsed Forbes’ candidacy during the Monday press conference.
Forbes has represented the fourth district since winning a special election in 2001, but redistricting actions have made it likely that he would have difficulty winning reelection in a newly drawn fourth. Forbes cited his experience and desire to continue working on behalf of a strong military as his primary reason for making the switch.
