WINDSOR
Renovation of the future Windsor Community Center is making progress, according to Mayor Carita Richardson, who has been deeply involved in the conversion of the former middle school gymnasium.

“Painters are finishing up the gym. A company is doing that because of the height of the walls,” she said. “A gentlemen is coming in to clean and polish the floors.”

An open house is scheduled for Saturday, April 30, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“People really want to see what’s going on with the facility,” the mayor continued.

At the same time, the Woman’s Club of honor will have its annual spring craft fair and lunch sale. Richardson also praised the tremendous help given by the membership.

Work continues in phases, and installing a heating and air-conditioning system is the next major need for the center. She estimates an approximate $55,000 will be needed to buy a unit. Money is still being raised, and no contractors have been chosen, nor have bids gone out.

Once that project is completed, the facility will be usable, though not completely finished. She is hopeful that the center will open later this year.
