To the Editor:

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the 204 persons that signed my petition of support in my quest to attain a seat on the Southampton County School Board. (I made the School Board Commission aware of my interest in a letter dated May 18, 2016.) On Tuesday, June 14, the Commission announced that they had selected Mrs. Donna Rountree to return to the board for a second term. My congratulations, to Mrs. Rountree (and Mr. Pope) for their reappointments.

I want those of you that supported me by signing my petition, making phone calls and speaking on my behalf know that I truly appreciate it. I may not have gained a seat on the board but I learned from the experience. I was not defeated, nor did I lose — I gained a great deal of knowledge about the process.

I will continue to work in other capacities to do what is best for children.
