NORFOLK
The youth and staff of the Franklin Summer Super Jam program traveled to the Norfolk Naval Base on July 8 to spend a day with the Navy.

After arriving at the base, the group was greeted by Carlethia Gaines of base tours, who aided the staff in making arrangements for the trip.

A member of her staff boarded the bus and narrated as the group toured the base. The group were able to see various ships that were in harbor as well as other important sites of the base.

Many of the youth were very vocal with many questions during the tour.

After the tour, the group was escorted to the base galley, where the youth and staff feasted to a wide variety of foods, salads and desserts.

The next stop of the day was a tour of the USS James E. Williams, an Arleigh Burke class destroyer of the United States Navy. The group was greeted upon boarding the ship by Lt. Luke Penrose, Combat Systems Officer/Command Duty Officer. Lt. Penrose introduced his staff that was present to escort the group in an intensive tour of the ship from bottom to top.
