Virginia’s sales tax holiday is underway, beginning today and lasting until Sunday, Aug. 7. During this weekend all school supplies and various other items will not be taxed upon purchasing.
According to the Virginia Department of Taxation, throughout the weekend, qualifying school supplies, clothing, footwear, hurricane and energy preparedness items and more can be purchased without the addition of a sales tax. These items can be bought in person, online, over the phone and by mail.
Standard rules do apply on the items purchased, such as the school supplies must be less than $20 and the clothes and footwear must be less than $100.
Several stores and retailers may also choose to run other items tax-free by offering specials and paying the sales tax themselves.
This weekend is not restricted to Virginia’s resident. Anyone who purchases these items in the state or has them delivered to a Virginia address will receive the discount.
