The Southampton County School Board announced at its regular meeting on Monday that Susan Melbye will serve as principal of Nottoway Elementary School for the 2016-2017 school year.
Melbye will replace outgoing principal Chris Tsitsera, who will join the school system’s central office as a Title I specialist.
“We are very excited,” said Superintendent Dr. Gwendolyn Shannon at the meeting. “[Melbye] is already a member of the Southampton family and we are excited to see her in this position.”
Melbye taught at Southampton High School for three years, and served as assistant principal alongside Dr. Sherie Davis at Southampton Middle School for five.
Davis has elected to leave the school division this year.
“I am extremely excited to work with the Nottoway community,” Melbye said. “They’ve been so wonderful and very helpful. The children are excited and bubbly and I can’t wait to see what they bring to the table as students this year.”
Replacing Melbye and Davis as assistant principals are Susan Fowler and Patricia Jackson. Fowler has worked for the county for 15 years in special education, and Jackson has been an educator for 33 years.
“I am elated about the new leadership roles that these members of our team will assume. I am confident that they possess the skillset to continue to aid our school division in expanding excellence,” Shannon said.
