Rufus C. Cope

WINDSOR — Rufus Clyde Cope, 77, passed away on Oct. 31, 2016, in Sentara Obici Hospital.
He was born in Annapolis, Maryland, a son of the late James Carlisle and Ideal Jenkins Cope ,and was also predeceased by his first wife, Constance “Connie” Spivey Cope.
Rufus was an Army veteran and was retired from Lipton Tea.
He was a member of Colosse Baptist Church, and was an avid fisherman and checker player.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Sue Stewart Cope; his daughter, Tonya Jane Cope; his twin sister, Marcia Cope Evans; his nieces, Ashley Spivey and Samantha Spivey; nephews, Brian Evans (Natasha), Michael Spivey (Elizabeth), Brent Staley (Jackie) and Barrett Staley (Jenny); his stepdaughters, Carol Cullipher (Doug) and Debbie Kardel (Ed); and his step-granddaughters, Whitlie Ortiz-Martinez (David) and Courtney Swinson.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 4, in Colosse Baptist Church with the Rev. Tim Webb officiating. The burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, and suggests memorial donations be made to the American Heart Association, 4217 Park Place Court, Glen Allen, VA 23060.
