NEWSOMS — Veronica Holly Lassiter Cooke, 61, went peacefully into the arms of Jesus after a full day surrounded by family and friends.
Waiting for her in glory were her father, Edward Joshua Lassiter; mother, Kathleen Wall Lassiter Bryant; sister, Martha Jane Lakes; and stepfather, Sterling Bryant.
Left to remember and cherish her legacy are her husband of 40 years, Robert Randolph Cooke; daughters, Cynthia Cooke Council (Mark) and Holly Cooke Ledbetter (Derrick); grandchildren, Devin Koehne, Cody Council, Makenzie Ledbetter and soon-to-be Baby Ledbetter; brothers and one sister, Charles Lassiter (Susan), Billy Lassiter, Bobby Lassiter, Edwin “Ease” Lassiter (Kathy) and Sylvia Pope; uncle and aunts, Allen Wall, Girlen Pierce, Elizabeth Drake and Olethia Taylor. Also left to cherish her memory are a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Special thanks to her niece, Deborah Barnes, for caring for her over the last several months.
Veronica was a devoted lover of the Lord and cherished her relationship with Him. He was faithful to her through the years and she made sure to tell everyone she knew. She graduated high school in Connersville, Indiana, and attended Paul D. Camp Community College as an adult.
Veronica worked in the field of Human Resources for Narricot Industries in Boykins, Virginia, and had many friends there whom she cherished.
She also appreciated her friendships made during her time working for Mid-Atlantic Dairy Queen.
Veronica loved her family and told them often; however, the grandchildren had a very special place in her heart. She prayed and asked God for extended time just to love her grandchildren and watch them meet milestones. She was able to see Devin and Cody graduate from high school and start a successful first year of college. She homeschooled Makenzie for three years and held a beautiful Kindergarten graduation for her, with a pink cap and gown.
Veronica not only loved her grandchildren, but children in general. She volunteered at the Rock Church School for numerous years, tutoring and helping students learn. She loved each of those children as her own. She was an active member of the Rock Church in Franklin up until her health prevented her from attending.
The family truly appreciates all of the love and support from friends, family and our community. A very special thanks to the Boykins Rescue personnel and Newsoms Fire volunteers; they have provided quick and wonderful service over the years.
There will be a visitation in Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, today, Nov. 15, from 6 to 8 p.m. The family will receive visitors at Randolph and Veronica’s residence during other times.
The celebration of Veronica’s life will be in Rock Church, 130 Lakeview Road, Franklin, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 16, with Pastor David Dillon officiating. There will be a committal service in Hollywood Cemetery in Newsoms, Virginia, directly after the service; followed by a reception in the Newsoms Ruritan Building.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Boykins Fire and Rescue, Newsoms Volunteer Fire Department or Rock Church School.
