Chowan basketball teams drop two games at VSU

The Chowan University Lady Hawks gave the Lady Trojans of Virginia State a hard way to go on their own home court as they put on a whole court press at various times, which was difficult for the home team to beat. Playing in the VSU Multipurpose Center on the campus of Virginia State University.

on Saturday, the Lady Hawks went ahead of the Lady Trojans with a score of 57-56 at the 8:52 mark in the fourth quarter. But the home team recovered to claim a 72-68 win.

Lady Hawk Dhyamond Crenshaw draws foul on shot

For the Lady Hawks, Chantel Roberts led in scoring with 18 points. Jada Lee and Dhyamond Crenshaw scored 13 points apiece. For the Lady Trojans, Alexis Smith led in scoring with 24 points. She was followed by Dionna Marcus with 16 points and Chrisanna Green with 10 points.

For the Hawks game, the Trojans were in command of the lead for the majority of the game. In the fourth quarter, the Hawks made several runs on the Trojans to get the score to within one point. A layup by Gus Rowland at the 3:18 mark then put the score at 61-62 for the Trojans. From that point, the Trojan defense stopped all scoring for the Hawks and the home team went on eight-point run to claim victory with a 70-61 win.

In double figures for the Hawks was Robert Grubbs with 21 points, Gus Rowland with 14 points and Demetrius Sanders with 10 points. For the Trojans, Trey Brown scored 18 points followed by Richard Granberry with 15 points.
