Two people died in a single-vehicle crash early Wednesday morning at the 1000 block of Ivor Road in Sedley.
According to Maj. Gene Drewery, spokesman for the Southampton County Sheriff’s Office, a Chevrolet sedan driven by Courtney Marie Bradshaw, 20, of Courtland, had been traveling northbound on Ivor Road when it ran off the roadway on one side, overcorrected, and ran off the other side, striking several trees. Also in the vehicle were Kaleigha Paige Mason, 20, of Courtland and Bradley James Wrenn, 27, of Franklin. Bradshaw and Mason were both pronounced dead at the scene and Wrenn was transported by air ambulance to Sentara Norfolk General. None were wearing seat belts.
The Sheriff’s Office was notified of the crash at approximately 2:39 a.m. The cause of the crash is still under investigation and the extent of Wrenn’s injuries remained unknown to the Sheriff’s Office as of 11:22 a.m.
Nina Napolitano, spokeswoman for the Virginia Department of Transportation, said that the crash resulted in the intersection of Ivor Road and Cottage Hill Road in Sedley being blocked for several hours, necessitating that traffic be detoured. The intersection was finally cleared at approximately 8:15 a.m.
In addition to the Sheriff’s Office and VDOT, responding agencies included the Ivor and Sedley volunteer fire departments, the Ivor and Courtland volunteer rescue squads and Southampton Towing.
