FRANKLIN
The Bank of Southside Virginia on Armory Drive has become enriched over the past several months not just through more deposits, but also with the addition of Colleen Shinault to the Franklin branch. As the new manager, she’s brought a wealth of experience to serve customers’ banking needs.
In early November, Shinault came to BSV in Franklin from BB&T, where she had served for 18 years. BSV courted her, the Courtland resident said about the move.
“BSV heard about me and I was approached by management,” she said.
The timing was right for both sides. Ronald West, the previous manager, was retiring. Shinault was looking to advance in banking, and she found it here, much to each other’s satisfaction.
Shinault’s financial background includes first working as a bookkeeper for Revco Discount Drug Stores. Then she went to United Virginia Bank and worked there for 10 years, moving her way up as it became Crestar Bank. Shinault has also been at Signet Bank, First Union Bank and, as mentioned earlier, most recently BB&T.
Her time at the latter was an enjoyable one, she said, noting only that there are two different styles between there and here.
“I’ve enjoyed it so far,” Shinault said about her time to date at the community bank. “I learn every day. I love helping people with their financial relationships,” and added that she appreciates customers’ trust in her.
A native of Chesapeake, Shinault came to work and live in Franklin for nine years before moving to Courtland. Two of her sons, Carl and Robert, are grown and out of the house. Her youngest, Donald, is a student at Southampton Middle School.
In addition to work, Shinault has been active in community and school programs.
