COURTLAND
A Franklin man has been sentenced to life in prison for the first degree murder of Tanisha Freeman of Courtland. That crime took place on Nov. 21, 2016, at her home in the Stevens Woods apartment complex on Oak Trail in Courtland.

Bobby Boone Jr. had been found guilty during a jury trial on Dec. 14, 2017, in Southampton County Circuit Court. Judge L. Wayne Farmer, who had been presiding, also handed down the judgment this past Tuesday.

Freeman, the mother of two children with Boone, was found dead at her place by deputies after the Southampton County Sheriff’s Office had been alerted to a possible homicide. She had been repeatedly stabbed.

A memorial service for Freeman took place at Barrett’s Landing last November around the time of her death.

In addition to the sentence, Boone had two revocations because he trespassed and violated a protective order, which added 23 more months of jail time. Court costs were $6,937.
