Dorothy Drake Burgess

SEDLEY — Dorothy Drake Burgess, 86, passed away on April 4, 2018, in the East Pavilion.
Mrs. Burgess was a native of Southampton County, and was a daughter of the late Theodore Roosevelt Drake Sr. and Iva Holland Drake. She was also predeceased by her husband of 68 years, Gholie McCoy Burgess; and two half-brothers, Wilbur and Melvin Turner.
Mrs. Burgess was a 1949 graduate of Courtland High School, a member of Sedley Baptist Church and a great homemaker.
Left to cherish her memory are three sons, G. McCoy Burgess Jr. (Linda,) Bobby Burgess (Myra,) and Ronny Burgess (Carol;); a sister, Shara Drake Kitchen (Nick;) a brother, Theodore “Ted” R. Drake Jr.; two sisters-in-law, Beth Burgess and Betty Turner; three granddaughters, Hilary Burgess, Lisa Gelman (Josh) and Kimberly Lewis (Broc;) three great-grandchildren, Vivianne and Levi Gelman and Sophia Lewis; and her Burgess family, Swann Broocke, Ann Davis (Wayne,) Carolyn Arnsberger (Jerry,) Emerson Burgess (Shirley,) Earl Burgess (Cecilia) and Wayne Burgess (Barbara).
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 8, in Sedley Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Foreman officiating. Burial will follow at Rosemont Cemetery, Sedley.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday in Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, and suggests that memorial donations be made to Sedley Baptist Church.
