COURTLAND — Leona Mae Williams Davis, 83, died on April 22, 2018, with family by her side.

Born and raised in Capron, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Fannie Mae Joyner and Arthur Grover Williams. She was also predeceased by a sister, Daphne Williams Vaughan Dunn; and three brothers, Arthur Clifton Williams, Sidney Thomas Williams and Gene Wesley Williams Sr.

Leona was a graduate of Pan American Business School in Richmond, Virginia, and worked several years in bookkeeping, and later served as voter registrar for Southampton County for 26 years.

She was a member of Courtland United Methodist Church, where she previously sang in the choir and served as secretary of the Administrative Board.

Leona loved music, sewing, cooking and spending time with her family. She enjoyed being a homemaker and always provided a loving home for her family and friends.

Leona is survived by her beloved husband of 62 years, Lewis Holmes Davis Sr.; two caring sons, Lewis Holmes Davis Jr. and Benjamin Arthur Davis (Tricia;) sister, Erma Williams Joyner; brother, Dr. David C. Williams (Flora Ann;) four precious grandchildren, Grayson Lewis Davis (Ashley,) Olivia Ann Davis (David,) Katherine Patricia Davis and Benjamin Holmes Davis; one special great-granddaughter, Shelby Mae Davis; sister-in-law, Zeannette “Topsy” R. Williams; former daughter-in-law, Betty Gray Davis; and many nieces and nephews.

The graveside service, led by the Rev. Andrew Book, will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 26, at Riverside Cemetery in Courtland.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 25, from 7 to 8 p.m., in Wright Funeral Home, and suggests memorial donations be made to Courtland United Methodist Church for the purchase of stained glass windows.
