The Sunshine Ladies & King Models presented their debut performance in a fashion show held in the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center on June 13. The fashion show was titled, “A Superb Senior Spring Fashion Show 2018.”
Girlie McCauley, recreation assistant of the Franklin Department of Parks & Recreation, planned and served as the commentator of the activity. The participating members of the group were all members of the Oak Street Senior Citizens Program. To meet the requirements to become a model of the group, all interested members were required to attend an intense six-week class about modeling that was taught by McCauley.
The show was divided into four parts: Scene 1, “My personality” in which the models wore outfits that express their innermost being. Scene 2, “Spring Drama,” presented colorful and dramatic statements made by the models pertaining to the season. Scene 3, “Let’s go to church” showed the models in classy ensembles and accessories for Sunday service. Scene 4 presented the models in the finale and closing ceremony.
In between the scenes, special entertainment was presented. Appearing during this time was special performance by Corrie S. Booker playing a selection on a blow harp (also known as a harmonica;) Virginia Haley doing a comedy routine; Thomas Council Jr. appearing as Bae B. New Year singing several songs; and a special performance by McCauley doing an interpretive dance. The fashion show also featured an appearance in several scenes by special guest model William Barnes.
