A Franklin man is in custody after being arrested on a charge of attempted armed robbery.
On Sunday at 12:06 a.m., city police responded to a residence in the 200 block of Madison Street, according to Capt. Tim Whitt, spokesman for the Franklin Police Department. On arrival, officers learned that three people were standing in the yard when a passing SUV stopped and a subject armed with a rifle got out and approached them. The suspect demanded cash from one of them, and when he did not get it he threatened all three with violence.
Investigation led the police to a residence in the 300 block of Roosevelt Street where the suspect’s vehicle was located. A search of it led to the recovery of a box of rifle ammunition. Further investigation led police to arrest Deon Dominick Sykes on the aforementioned charge.
Sykes, 29, was also charged with being a felon in possession of ammunition. He was remanded to Western Tidewater Regional Jail without bond.
