A Courtland woman was arrested last Friday after allegedly striking a Southampton County sheriff’s deputy with a child safety seat.
According to Lt. Camden Cobb, spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 11:23 p.m., deputies responded to a 911 hang up in the 31000 block of Camp Parkway and discovered a disturbance involving two people. When deputies attempted to defuse the situation, Christa Byrum, 22, of Courtland, allegedly hit one of the deputies in the face with the child seat. Deputies say that Byrum then kicked the deputy in the leg when he tried to arrest her.
Byrum was taken into custody without further incident. The deputy suffered a small laceration to his face but no further injury. She has been charged with felony assault on law enforcement and was released on bond last Saturday.
