By the end of the first quarter in last Friday’s game, the Southampton High School Indians had a 12-point lead over the visiting Appomattox Regional Governor’s School Dragons, making the score 29-17. Try as they might, those challengers could not catch up enough to even tie.

The second quarter was more of the same as Indian after Indian got control of the ball and took it to their basket for points. By halftime, the score was 52-27.

In the third, the Dragons did what they could to decrease the gap, but they were at 47 to the Indians’ 78. ARGS continued to push and, as a result, got several more points in the fourth, ultimately, it was 88-66 in Southampton’s favor.

SHS Coach Sharone Bailey said afterward that his players came out to the court with “energy, speed and they like to play fast.” The big lead the team established in the first half also helped.

Bailey acknowledged that the ARGS Dragons are formidable team.

“They fight to the end and always play hard,” he said.

Two of his own players that Bailey recognized are Aluntae Outlaw and Dale Vick for their performance on the court that night.

Earlier that night, the Lady Indians had won in a much closer game, 49-43, over the Lady Dragons.

The girls and boys will play tonight in Windsor at 7 o’clock. On Friday, the girls will go to Franklin, and the boys will host the Broncos at the same time, 7 p.m.
