On Jan. 17, at approximately 8:25 a.m., Southampton County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a logging operation on Sadler Road in Ivor for a report of vandalism to equipment. This information comes from department spokesman Lt. Camden Cobb.
W&T Logging, based out of Windsor, is the company doing the site work.
While on the scene, deputies were shown a piece of equipment that had a window broken out of it, as well as radiator and water lines that had been cut open. Deputies were shown three additional pieces of equipment that had the fuel caps removed. It is unknown at this time if the fuel was contaminated with any substances or not. The damage occurred between the afternoon of Jan. 16 and the morning of Jan. 17.
The damage to the equipment is estimated to be around $2,500, but may end up higher depending on whether some of the damaged components can be repaired or if they will need to be replaced.
Evidence from the scene was collected and has been sent to the Department of Forensic Science for analysis.
Cobb added on Thursday afternoon that as yet there are no suspects identified.
If anyone has any information about the person(s) responsible for the vandalism to the equipment, contact Deputy M. Stewart at 653-2100.
