During the weekend of April 5-6, Franklin High School student leaders attended the Virginia High School League Ken Tilley Student Leadership Conference at Floyd E. Kellam High School in Virginia Beach.

Prior to the event, students and advisors preregistered for breakout sessions of their choosing. Sessions included leadership and community service, spirit showcase and preparing for college life, just to name a few.

The keynote speaker was Olympian and silver medalist Sarah Wells. She is also the director of the Believe Initiative, an organization geared towards inspiring young people to believe in their own abilities. Wells captivated the audience as she shared her life story of perseverance and hard work.

After the two-day conference, students shared lessons learned and best practices that they would like to implement during their high school experience.

Everyone involved looks forward to next year’s conference at West Potomac High School in Alexandria.
