May FCPS Alumnus of the Month – Dr. Armando Wyatt

Armando Jabari Wyatt is an honor graduate of the FHS class of 1992. He is the son of former Franklin City Public Schools administrator and educator Armand C. Wyatt and former Southampton County educator Thelma W. Wyatt. Twin brother Armandson is also a 1992 graduate of FHS.
Although a native of Waverly, FCPS was where he received the entirety of his primary and secondary education. During his time at FHS, Wyatt was a member of the J.V. and Varsity basketball teams as well as the Cadet and Bronco bands.
After obtaining his advanced studies diploma from FHS, Wyatt matriculated at Norfolk State University as a Dozoretz Scholar with a major in biology/pre-medicine. While at Norfolk State, he became a fall 1993 initiate of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., and has been a life member of the organization since 1994.
After serving the Epsilon Pi chapter of Alpha in various capacities, including chapter president in 1995-96, he graduated with honors obtaining a B.S. in biology in May 1996.
Wyatt subsequently matriculated at Hampton University and obtained a Master of Science in biology in December of 1997. While completing his M.S. degree at Hampton, he obtained acceptance to several medical schools and ultimately decided to begin study at Eastern Virginia Medical School in the summer of 1998 and completed requirements for the Doctor of Medicine degree in May 2002.
While at EVMS, he served as president of the class of 2002 in his second year and received the Lloyd Damsey, MD Memorial Award, which is given to a graduating medical student who best demonstrates a commitment to the ideals of family and community medicine, overall academic excellence, outstanding service to the school and community and innovative research activities.
As his next chapter began, Wyatt again decided to remain close to home and completed three years of residency training at Eastern Virginia Medical School. He went into private practice as a hospitalist physician at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital where he remained for over 10-1/2 years. He has been employed by Bon Secours Medical Group for the past 3-1/2 years as a hospitalist at Maryview Medical Center in Portsmouth where he began his medical training as a resident at EVMS.
He is married to Dr. Franchesca Meachem Wyatt, a cardiothoracic anesthesiologist at the Sentara Heart Hospital in Norfolk. They reside in Virginia Beach with Ardan, 8, and recently welcomed Samantha in August 2018.
