Riverdale Elementary School recently announced the 2019-2020 Safety Patrol members, who will focus on hallway safety for the entire school. The safety patrol team is derived of fourth and fifth grade students that exemplify the characteristics of a patrolman to keep the student body safe.
Students are positioned throughout the school hallways and entranceways to welcome and assist students and visitors as they arrive at Riverdale. Students can be observed greeting and offering guidance as needed. Safety patrol members were officially trained by AAA Tidewater Virginia community educator, Katharine Beachboard, to review responsibilities and duties as a safety patrol member.
The Riverdale Safety Patrols are sponsored by guidance counselor Buddy Whitehurst and co-principal Tamee Railey. With an increase in participation, this group of patrollers has been the most the school has seen in years with over 65 participants.
According to Whitehurst, “The safety patrol members are role models for our entire Riverdale family and you can expect to see them exemplifying the school theme of ‘We RISE by Lifting Others’ at all times, on and off duty.”
Railey said, “We are looking forward to a safe 2019-2020 school year with the help of Safety Patrollers.”
